Queen’s Wharf Brisbane Update

Destination Brisbane Consortium has awarded preferred contractor status to Fitzgerald Constructions Australia for the construction of the Neville Bonner Bridge that will provide a pedestrian link between Queen’s Wharf Brisbane integrated resort development and South Bank.

Works will commence at South Bank between the Wheel of Brisbane and the river’s edge around March 2020 with the bridge structure expected to be connected with the development in April 2021.

Along with this announcement, Queen’s Wharf Brisbane has opened the new public open space – Waterline Park. The rejuvenated riverfront includes a 500 meter section of upgraded Bicentennial Bikeway, an above-water Mangrove and new recreational facilities beneath the Riverside Expressway.

Last night, at a Business South Bank event, new Brisbane Festival Artistic Director, Louise Bezzina announced that the festival hub would remain in the South Bank precinct.  The Brisbane Festival hub has traditionally been located in the Cultural Forecourt but due to impending construction taking place in the precinct, the forecourt will not be available.

Louise announced that following talks with South Bank Corporation and City Parklands Services a new venue had been found.

The 2020 event will be themed BOLDLY BRISBANE.

Today Queensland Theatre has announced that Lee Lewis will be appointed as the new Artistic Director for the Company. Lee is the current CEO of Griffin Theatre and has curated seven successful seasons at Griffin and many of her productions have been nominated for awards.

Lee will commence with Queensland Theatre in January 2020, as they celebrate their 50th anniversary.

Sunsuper Riverfire returns Saturday 28 September to mark the end of Brisbane Festival 2019. Close to half a million people will converge around Brisbane. Entertainment will start from 4pm and Fireworks from 7pm.

Vantage Points include:
Kangaroo Point Cliffs, River Terrace at Kangaroo Point, South Bank, Victoria Bridge, Captain Burke Park, Wilson’s Lookout, Howard Smith Wharves, and the City Riverwalk including the Riverside Centre and Eagle Street Pier.
