Neville Bonner Bridge: Site Establishment at South Bank

Work will soon commence at South Bank for construction of the new pedestrian bridge Neville Bonner Bridge that will connect South Bank and the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane.

When:
From Monday 2 March 2020, with approved construction hours Monday to Friday 6.30am to 6.30pm with occasional Saturday work.

Where: 
The works will be located on the Cultural Forecourt and adjacent greenspace in front of the Wheel of Brisbane. – View Map.

What to expect: 
The works will be to establish the site boundary, install site fencing and site accommodation.  It is expected to take a few weeks to establish the two sites.

Lord Mayor Announces Free Bus Loop Service for South Bank Precinct

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner announced this week at a Business South Bank (BSB) member function, that as part of the Brisbane Metro Project construction plan the Council would operate a free bus loop service around the South Bank precinct.

The announcement follows years of discussion between Council and BSB about implementing initiatives that would mitigate against the potential impacts of the construction of the Brisbane Metro.

Details of the timing and route of the bus loop service is yet to be determined and subject to Queensland Government approval of Brisbane Metro project, including approval to proceed with the Cultural Centre station detailed design and construction.

BSB will ensure members are kept informed and involved in the process.

John Barton has been appointed as Chair of Business South Bank, following Martin Betts stepping down from the role.  Martin was elected Chairman of the Board in 2017 and championed the Association’s 20-year vision for the precinct, as well as oversaw the strongest member engagement activities and membership growth in the Association’s 20-year history.

John is the CEO, MGD, and has been on the board since October 2015, and most recently was BSB’s Treasurer.

Shaun Mitchell, Event & Customer Services Director, BCEC remains at Deputy Chair; and Charles Martin, General Manager – Emporium Hotels has been appointed as BSB’s Treasurer.

City of Science to Take Over Cultural Precinct

Taking over the Cultural Precinct, City of Science, will wind all the way from Queensland Museum, along the Brisbane River and up to the Maiwar Green at QAGOMA.

City of Science include activities, pockets to explore, rest and gather, connect with art installations and marvel at lighting activation’s, as well as The Nucleus (the after dark festival’s designated hang out spot).

From the 26th to the 29th March 2020, the World Science Festival Brisbane and City of Science will transform Brisbane into a Worldwide Science Capital City.

Construction of the final stage of the Riverside Open Space project will start Friday 7 February. Located next to the rainforest green, it will be transformed into a new public recreation area with new landscaping, shaded area with seating and barbecue facilities, public art and riverside rest and lookout area.

Timings and construction impacts
Works will take place from Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm. The lawn area and some seating will be closed during the works. The playground will remain open.

Traffic control will be in place to assist with vehicle movements, with all vehicles accessing the site via Russell Street and then travelling along the promenade. The final stage of works are due for completion in early 2021.

The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre continues to lead the way in sustainability with the installation of 764 solar panels with 309.42 kilowatt solar systems which is expected to supply 40% of the energy demand from the operation of the Centre’s BCEC on Grey Street venue.

They have also recently installed energy saving LED lighting system for the Centre’s Exhibition Halls, Concourse and Car Park equipped with bluetooth smart lighting control facilitating daylight harvesting.

BCEC managed by ASM Global on behalf of South Bank Corporation, already has EarthCheck Gold accreditation from the world’s most recognised environmental benchmarking program and is on track to receive Platinum Certification in 2020.
