Brisbane State High School

Students in all year levels have returned to on-site learning at all state schools across Queensland.

This decision, supported by Queensland’s Chief Health Officer, is in line with the progressive easing of restrictions as part of the Government’s response to COVID-19.

It is with great regret that we inform you, due to the impact of COVID-19, the remaining mainstage performances listed in Camerata’s Season 2020 for Brisbane and Toowoomba have today been cancelled.

The essential information for you regarding the cancellation:
– Performances cancelled include: A Shot of BaroqueConcerto, and Endless Tango.
– Ticket refund information can be found below.
– Our Something Extra series featuring Orava Quartet’s October performance of Sunrise remains on sale.

As you can appreciate, the reduction of income has been an unexpected challenge. If you are in a situation where you may be able to consider a donation or gift to Camerata with the cost of your tickets, you will find ways to support the orchestra below.

This does not mean that you will not be hearing from us in 2020 though!

Other Camerata performances this year:

  •  5@5: What began as a small idea has certainly taken on its own life. Today marks our 32nd episode and over the last six weeks, over 150,000 people have tuned in and tuned out to more than two and a half hours of music content. We continue to receive the most extraordinary feedback of how important this daily ritual has become. Head over to the new dedicated page on our website to hear the series in full or tune in each day at 5pm on Facebook.
  • The Isolate Late Show: We are delighted to support the work of Naomi Price and Little Red Company’s smash online hit which has raised over $70,000 for Actors Benevolent Fund to distribute to local artists in need. Isolate is streamed online every Friday night from 8pm.
  • World Bee Day: Stay tuned for an exciting project launching to celebrate World Bee Day with our good friends at West Village on their Facebook on 16 May. This project features a new work commissioned by Camerata and recorded by our artists from their homes.

“As we face an unprecedented challenge, I would like to re-affirm that JMC is continuously reviewing its operations with regards to COVID-19 and the precautionary measures in place to ensure the health and safety of our community. As of today, there are no confirmed cases at JMC Academy and therefore in accordance with the advice of the Chief Medical Officer and the Australian Government, JMC remains open.

Notwithstanding, we understand the heightened concern and uncertainty amongst both staff and students and therefore our team has been working very hard behind the scenes to plan for a variety of contingencies. I am working very closely with our academic staff and support teams to best transition current programs to a remote teaching mode while ensuring a consistent level of quality in your education is maintained.

In the meantime, any student who feels uncomfortable travelling to JMC will not be disadvantaged or penalised. We do however, request that you advise your lecturer or administration of your absence so we can endeavour to provide you with online resources and additional material, where possible, until a transition to online is complete.

Additionally, I would like to acknowledge the anxieties being caused by this pandemic and the strain it can potentially have on your mental health. Please understand that we do not take this lightly and want to take all actions in our power to make you feel as comfortable as possible. In support of this, we still have our on-campus counsellor available for consultation and are also currently looking at transitioning this to an online service in the very near future. While there are also a number of good resources online, I would like to reference Beyond Blue’s article on ‘Looking after your mental health during the coronavirus outbreak’ where they state that in such a challenging time it is important to:

• Try and maintain perspective
• Find a healthy balance in relation to media coverage
• Access good quality information
• Try to maintain a practical and calm approach
• Try not to make assumptions

Our number one priority remains the health and safety of our students and staff and while we remain open, we will continue with our preventative cleans, promotion of good hygiene and social distancing measures.

We appreciate that this is a rapidly developing situation and will provide more updates as they become available.

For the last 10 years, Le Festival has been successfully illuminating Brisbane with French frivolity and ‘joie-de-vivre’. Much of what we do is hugely dependent on the support of our communities and collaborators; we sincerely appreciate all the support we receive because it helps us give back to you and pay it forward. Unfortunately, the current circumstances with COVID-19 have meant that we have had to cancel our July event, and postpone to October. This puts our event at risk and poses an enormous challenge for the team to keep it ‘above water’. For the first time in 10 years, we have been forced to open the door for donations.

“Lime continues to closely monitor developments around the world and remains in coordination with health and regulatory authorities in more than 25 countries. The below markets remain open and we will continue to adjust our operations as appropriate.

• Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

• Brisbane, Australia

• Busan, South Korea

• Christchurch, New Zealand

• Dunedin, New Zealand

• Hamilton, New Zealand

• Selwyn District, New Zealand

• Seoul, South Korea

As a reminder, we’d also like to ask the Lime community to do their part in helping to stop the spread of COVID-19. It’s up to each of us to take the necessary steps, as advised by your local public health officials.

Steps we’re taking to keep our communities safe in our open markets
• We have enhanced our cleaning methods and increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting our scooters. We are cleaning all parts of the scooter that are touched by people and we are only using products recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the Center for Biocide Chemistries list that have been approved by the EPA for use against the coronavirus.

• In our offices and warehouses, we are distributing hand sanitizer. All of our mechanics and operators in the field are required to wear gloves and wash their hands regularly.

• We’re following the CDC, the World Health Organization (WHO), federal agencies, and other global health organizations to collect the most up-to-the-minute information to ensure the actions we’re taking are comprehensive and expedient. Based on this information, we will decide to continue, pause, or suspend operations in certain markets.

Steps you can take to protect yourself
• Just as you should wipe down public and shared surfaces with disinfectant, we encourage you to do the same before riding a scooter or bike.

• You could also consider wearing gloves as a precaution as well as washing your hands before and after riding.

In the coming weeks we will share additional updates with the Lime community as it becomes available. As soon as we know when we expect specific markets to go back online, we will be in touch.

To learn more about COVID-19 and other precautions you can take, please refer to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.

In the meantime, let’s take care of each other. Because as challenging as this is, we’ll get through it together. At Lime, we’ve always believed the people make the city. That’s doubly true now, when we need to step up and help each other.

Stay safe,

Queensland Symphony Orchestra
“Concert Cancellations
With a heavy heart Queensland Symphony Orchestra has cancelled all performances and activities up to and including April 30 as a result of COVID-19. This includes all concerts, educational workshops and community events.

We know this is disappointing for our audiences, not to mention our family of musicians who share a deep love of music and are born to perform. However, our top priority is the health of our patrons and our company, so it is crucial we follow the best advice available on COVID-19. We are working closely with all Government agencies, as well as our venue partner QPAC, and will share updates whenever they arise, particularly if there is a change in our restart date.

This is a challenging time for everyone, particularly our vibrant and internationally acclaimed arts sector.

Moving forward, all ticket holders will be contacted with further information, including the ongoing opportunity to donate the value of purchased tickets.

Already we have seen generous patrons choose to donate refunds on their cancelled tickets back to QSO, as a tax-deductible contribution, and we are so thankful. As a performing industry, we rely heavily on ticket sales, and the prospect of cancelling multiple shows will affect everyone significantly. It is not just musicians, but crew, lighting and sound technicians, producers, box office staff, casual workers and more. Your understanding, generosity and support is so appreciated.

History teaches us that in times of great challenge and uncertainty the arts are uniquely placed to provide hope and inspiration. We are so grateful to have such a loyal and supportive community, and we hope we can make use of this time to bring music to you in new ways.

As an Orchestra for Everyone, we are committed to sharing our love of music, despite the limitations placed upon us. Please follow us on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram to follow our progress.

Please stay safe and healthy and know that our show will go on. We will provide further update as the situation progresses.

Queensland Theatre

We regret to inform you that all remaining performances of TRIPLE X have been cancelled.
After careful review of government guidelines and updated advice about the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided that it is in the best interest of our community not to go ahead with the rest of our season of Triple X. While we make this decision with a heavy heart, our first priority is and always will be the health and wellbeing of our patrons, artists, staff and the public at large.
In this challenging time, all of us at Queensland Theatre are concerned for the wellbeing and long term viability of Australia’s arts community. We are especially mindful of the plight of freelance practitioners who do not have access to resources or contingency plans.
We greatly appreciate your understanding during this difficult period. Thank you for the support so many of you have already shown us. We are very grateful to our patrons who have chosen to donate refunds on their cancelled tickets back to us, as tax-deductible contributions – generosity like this will be essential to mitigate the impact of this unprecedented global event.

These are uncertain times. One thing we can be sure of, however, is that theatre is a necessary and vital space where communities are built, nurtured and maintained. Its importance will only continue to grow as we look to the future. Rest assured that we will be back and producing shows as soon as it is safe and advisable to do so.

Amanda Jolly and Lee Lewis
Executive Director and Artistic Director

TAFE Queensland has been continuing to implement a range of proactive measures to limit the impact of COVID-19 and to support our students in continuing their study.

We are continually evaluating our approaches to workplace health, safety and wellbeing issues for our staff and students based on advice provided by Queensland Health.

In March 2020, we transitioned most of our programs to online or digital, and limited the amount of on-campus delivery.

  • TAFE Queensland is open, although we are doing things differently.
  • A majority of our courses will be delivered online or digitally.
  • Limited face-to-face on-campus delivery will take place. Physical distancing measures have being implemented across campuses.
  • Events and gatherings that are not delivery of education and training are postponed until after May 2020. This includes graduations.
  • Staff are working remotely and continue to provide services to students.
  • Library services are available online. On-campus library computers are available for students to use.

*To increase the safety and wellbeing of our customers & team members during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are implementing a number of temporary changes at our TOMRA Recycling Centres in SE QLD:

  • We will be closing all of our Recycling Centres for 2 brief periods of 15 mins at 11am and 2.30pm each day – to allow for additional thorough cleaning of our facilities
  • We will be restricting the total number of people allowed inside our Recycling Centres at any one time to ensure good social distancing can be maintained by all of our customers – and to comply with Government mandates that prohibit large gatherings
  • We are introducing a new traffic flow system at all of our depots – together with clearly marked crosses for people to stand on whilst either using the machines or waiting to use the machines – again to ensure people can practice good social distancing
  • We have enabled Touch Free Recycling by reducing the time-out function on our machines from 30 secs to 15 secs and signage at all Recycling Centres clearly explains how to take advantage of this

If you have any further questions on this our friendly team will assist you in the Centre.
