Scape Welcomes Back Students

Scape Welcomes Back Students

After a tough couple of years in the world of student accommodation, Scape has seen a massive uplift in international student arrivals. The ‘No Vacancy’ sign has been dusted off and hung out at its’ three South Bank buildings, that 2,401 students now call home.

Back in October 2019, Scape acquired the Atira portfolio of student accommodation, then purchased the Urbanest portfolio in March 2020, just as the pandemic was spreading through Australia. The borders then slammed shut and all plans for re-brand and consolidation were put on hold. Fast forward to May this year, all Atira and Urbanest buildings nationally have been re-branded to ‘Scape’. There are six assets in Brisbane, with capacity for 3,993 students. Three of those assets are within 100 meters of each other in the South Bank precinct on Merivale Street.

Scape has introduced a new initiative this year, ‘Scape’s Got talent’. Through the BSB network, Scape has partnered with Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre and Emporium Hotel to connect students for casual employment opportunities. This has been a great success with both these partners attending a pop-up market day at Scape recently resulting in lots of students lining up, resume in hand.

On Level 13 at Scape South Bank, in collaboration with local apiarist ‘Gary’s Honey’, beehives have been installed with the first harvest due in September. The honey will be provided to students at a regular pop up ‘crumpets and honey’ event twice per month on a Saturday morning, and the beeswax turned into lip balm and given free to students and team members at Scape.
