South Bank Corporation is seeking feedback on the draft preliminary design for the Grey Street Bikeway and Streetscape Project. The preliminary design builds on the ‘Destination Grey Street’ vision outlined in the Future South Bank Master Plan. 

Key design elements include:

  • A safe, all ages, all-abilities bikeway separated from traffic
  • 50% more footpath space
  • Slower traffic speeds
  • Safer and universally accessible footpaths and crossings
  • 120% more green space

Vision for South Bank: Future South Bank Master Plan Released

The Queensland Government and South Bank Corporation has released the Final Future South Bank Master Plan, putting in place a long-term vision for one of Queensland’s most loved precincts.

The master plan identifies three priority projects – the Southern Gateway, Northern Gateway and Grey Street, and envisages a revitalised gathering place at the site of the Cultural Forecourt.

Shaped by more than 25,000 pieces of community feedback, the master plan focuses on enhanced connections and walkability, more active transport and green space.

Significant progress has been made on the new Roma Street underground station as part of Cross River Rail with platform screen doors and escalators now installed. The station’s roof will be lifted into place and public art installed over the coming months. 

More than 46,000 people are expected to use the new Roma Street station each weekday by 2036.

South Bank Corporation and Containers for Change have partnered together and launched new solar-powered recycling Smart Bins in South Bank.

These Smart Bins are a first in Queensland with bar code reading technology to only accept containers eligible for 10-cent refunds.

Members wanting to use the Container for Change Smart Bins can find them on Grey Street and in the parklands.
