SUSTAINABILITY IN ACTION: EARTHCHECK’S CONTRIBUTION TO A GREENER SOUTH BANK PRECINCT

BSB member EarthCheck, has embedded sustainable practices throughout its operations and is setting a strong example of what it means to contribute to a more inclusive, climate-conscious, and connected precinct.

Below are examples of how EarthCheck is making a difference, aligned with BSB’s Sustainability Pledge.

Promoting Participation
EarthCheck’s Green Team lead the charge on sustainability, making it easy for staff to get involved – through simple signage in the kitchen, induction programs and ongoing education.

Engaging with the Broader Precinct
EarthCheck regularly shares their sustainability journey, goals and performance data with other precinct members whether through forums, informal chats or EarthCheck platforms.

Educate on Sustainable Practices
All new team members are inducted into EarthCheck’s Sustainability & Energy Efficiency Policy. Staff are trained in waste separation, efficient resource use and water-saving behaviours. This knowledge becomes second nature in day-to-day operations.

Sharing Knowledge and Insights
EarthCheck publishes regular performance reports and contribute to precinct-wide initiatives, through their website, knowledge sharing, email updates and peer mentoring.

Learn and Grow Together
EarthCheck benchmarks their performance regularly and is proudly ISO9001 and EarthCheck certified and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Embrace Innovation
Implementing timers on lights, low-flow taps, composting for food and bathroom waste, and cloud-based document systems to reduce paper use in the office.

SUSTAINABLE

Minimise Waste
EarthCheck conduct quarterly waste audits and support multiple waste streams: compost, soft plastics, coffee cups, e-waste and batteries. Paper towels from bathrooms and kitchens are composted, and staff are educated with clear signage above bins​.

Conserve and Recycle Resources
Water-efficient appliances are installed and maintain low water usage. Staff are encouraged to report leaks immediately, and educational material promotes conservation awareness​.

Support Local Biodiversity
Located just 400m from the Maiwar (Brisbane River), EarthCheck team is educated on protecting local waterways and green spaces through Clean-up events and awareness campaigns.

Promote Low-Emission Transport
Promoting public transport and cycling to work. EarthChck also cluster work travel to reduce emissions, use Microsoft Teams for meetings, and offset emissions where travel is unavoidable​.

Embrace Circular Economy Principles
EarthCheck’s procurement prioritises local, fair-trade and reusable products, favouring digital-first solutions which has significantly reduced paper use across the business.

HEALTHY & INCLUSIVE

Promote Wellbeing at Work
Prioritising staff mental and physical health through ergonomic workstations, access to natural light, indoor plants, flexible hybrid work model and regular wellness events.

Acknowledge and Learn from First Nations Culture
EarthCheck sustainability policy acknowledges the Turrbal and Jagera Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of Meanjin and their ongoing connection to Country, encouraging staff to deepen their understanding of cultural heritage​.

Celebrate Cultural Diversity
EarthCheck is a proudly multicultural workplace celebrating events like Harmony Day and ensure cultural sensitivity through training, communication protocols, and a complaint management system for fairness and inclusion​.
